Sedation Dentist Albuquerque
Experience Stress-Free Dental Care
At Dr. Monica Boehmer’s dental practice, we realize that many people avoid the dentist because of anxiety. While that distress may have nothing to do with us; in fact, dental anxiety is often rooted in a troublesome memory of an earlier visit to another dentist – we know it’s our job to help patients conquer their uncertainty and receive the dental care they need and deserve. One way we accomplish this is with sedation dentistry in Albuquerque, so call our office today for help.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous oxide is a mild sedative that’s also often referred to as “laughing gas.” It is administered through a mask that covers the patient’s nose while they recline in the treatment chair. After breathing in a mixture of nitrous and oxygen, feelings of calmness and relaxation should set in over the course of mere minutes. Many patients prefer this method because no long recovery period is needed afterward – you will be able to return to work and even drive yourself without the need for an escort.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation is done while the patient is gently sedated. Dr. Boehmer prescribes a mild oral sedative that you take with water before your dental appointment. While you are under the influence of OCS, you will still be able to make decisions and carry on conversations with Dr. Boehmer and her staff. Sometimes, patients have no recollection of what happened during their care in our office and believe they’ve slept through everything.
Once you arrive at our practice, you’ll be taken to a treatment room and helped into the chair. By this time, you’ll feel completely relaxed and ready to have your dental treatment.
Because you’ve taken a sedative, a friend or family member will need to escort you, remain in the office during your treatment, and take you back home. Depending on how you feel after your procedure, you may want this person to keep an eye on you for the day.
